With the rise of
online learning
, there's an increasing demand for
top chrome extensions
that serve as
academic support
for students. One such tool is the Share with Fluency Tutor
chrome extension
, designed as a
study
aid to assist with
homework
and
reference
tasks.
A Detailed Overview of the Chrome Extension
This extension is designed to work alongside the Fluency Tutor App. The core purpose of the Share with Fluency Tutor extension is to enable teachers to share
educational resources
from any website with their students. This allows students to read the shared
content
using the Fluency Tutor application. This tool is built with the intent of fostering student independence, as they can decide what content they want to read and study independently of their teachers.
The Shortcomings of the Chrome Extension
Despite the promising features, the Share with Fluency Tutor extension holds a low aggregate rating of 2.57 out of 5. User reviews highlight several shortcomings that contribute to this less than average rating. The primary issue appears to be the extension's inability to accurately track and record students' reading errors, a feature that is supposed to be one of its major strengths.
As Ann Cannon Brooks pointed out in her review, the diagnostic feature of the extension doesn't seem to work. She conducted her own test, purposefully making mistakes while recording herself reading, and the extension consistently recorded 100% accuracy. This indicates an issue with the tool's error detection feature, making it an unreliable learning support for students.
Limited Device Compatibility
Another major drawback of the Share with Fluency Tutor extension highlighted by user Kristi Charbonneau is its limited compatibility with devices. The extension can't be used with iPads and is only compatible with Chromebooks. This lack of flexibility limits the reach of this educational tool, reducing its efficiency as a study aid for many students.
Concluding Thoughts
To sum up, while the Share with Fluency Tutor extension has the potential to be one of the best online study tools, it falls short due to its faulty error detection feature and limited device compatibility. Until these issues are resolved, it's advisable to explore other, more reliable online study tools and chrome extensions that can offer robust learning support.
3 Reviews For This Extension
It is wonderful in theory and would be amazing if it worked. It does not pick up any of the errors that it lists or classifies. The students can record themselves and listen back which is helpful but the diagnostic feature does not appear to work in any manner. I sat next to a child as they read and did a running record along with the app thinking I would compare. The app recorded no errors, hesitations, insertions, mispronunciations, etc. at all. I recorded myself and purposefully made mistakes and again received 100% and no errors. Very disappointing.

Can't use with Ipads, only Chrome books.
